Benedict smiles when Selune kisses him and he gives her a brief, if tentative, hug in return.
He gives her an approving nod when she makes her comments about Unity.
Before he has a chance to say anything more, she hears a commotion out in the hall accompanied by thumping and Riley suddenly bursts through the door, followed by Cole who is obviously suppressing a grin.
“Dad!” she says as she throws herself at Benedict almost toppling him over in his chair and managing to knock over the chessboard.
Benedict says, “Riley,” and pats her on the back.
He raises an eyebrow at the cast and shakes his head saying wryly, “The whole concept of looking before you leap hasn’t sunk in with you yet, has it?”
She giggles and takes a seat in one of the chairs while Cole quickly picks up the chess pieces before they get stepped upon.
Cole brings Benedict up to date on the current state of affairs as he knows it.
Riley is sawing off her cast with a sword she managed to pull off the wall without anyone noticing.
Benedict says, “This attack is magic based, which means that without the Pattern, I am at a distinct disadvantage. However, I have no idea what will happen if I should attempt to walk the Pattern again so I am leery to do so without discussing the matter with those that have a better understanding of it than I. Riley,” he says in a slightly sharp tone that makes her look up, "What are our three primary objectives?"
"Get your Pattern imprint back, get Selune to walk the Pattern, and free Amber!" she says brightly.
Benedict sighs and says, "Cole?"
"Protect Amber including maintaining its power and assets, break the curse, and identify who is behind the attack and neutralize them. The order is debatable. A multi-pronged approach would be best if we have adequate manpower so that we do not waste precious time."
Riley pouts for a moment before shrugging and finishing breaking her leg free of the cast, leaving a mess of plaster on the floor. Benedict looks displeased and frowns at her until she takes a little shovel and broom next to the fireplace and begins cleaning up the mess she made, tossing the scraps of her cast into the flames cheerfully.
Satisfied Benedict turns to Selune and says, "Selune, tell me what assets you have identified so far…and anything else you deem pertinent. Often those who are new to an environment notice things that others do not as familiarity can dull one's senses."
